After receiving my degree in Applied Anthropology, I was offered a spot on a team working to bring Circle of Parents support groups to the Iron Range area of Norther MN. Accepting, I was trained as a certified facilitator and became part of a group that worked along side St. Louis County to establish this new parent support service.

After a year of great success running groups, I was trained as a certified facilitator for the Circle of Security Parenting course. This aloud for the expansion of services I could offer. Hearing back from other parents and families on further needs, I participated in additional education and continued adding services by request to fill the expressed needs of the parents and families I work with. With a Christ centered approach, my goal is to help support and encourage families both near and far, helping shine a light onto their parenting journey and deepen connections between services and community needs. With a family of my own, I have seen the benefit of these programs play out in my personal life and am excited to share the same benefits with other families.

February 2025 Newsletter

February is here! Which means we are one month closer to spring! Does anyone else count down the days out of winter, or is it just me? Winter, at least for us here in Northern MN, brings higher utility bills, higher costs for our vehicles, and early morning frantic shovel outs. Not to mention the hoards of us plagued by the waves of SAD (Seasonal Affected Disorder).

Despite all this winter discomfort, Family Light aims to bring you some hope! We are currently offering weekly General Parent Support groups meeting each Wednesday from 9:00am to 10:00am in person as well as a new Circle of Security Course beginning Wednesday, February 12th from 10:00am to Noon.

On top of our current groups and courses, we offer individually scheduled parent and family Mentorship. Sit down with your mentor either in person, or virtually, to set goals, get support achieving those goals, and get support in the practical application of Circle of Security once you have completed the coarse.

Coming up on Thursday, May 15th, we are having our Spring Fundraiser event! To see details unfold in real time, check back frequently to our Spring '25 Fundraiser Event tab on our official website, familylightconnect.org!

Did you know that Family Light now also offers services for professionals? We offer two options for you and your colleagues to get supported and strengthened! If you work with children, parents, or families in any capacity, then what we offer is for you!

The first option is our Circle of Security Awareness Course. This course utilizes the same videos that community members experience in their Circle of Security Courses but offers discussion focused around you as a professional in the field.

The second option is our Service Professionals Support Groups. These groups can be conducted in person or virtually, depending on what works best for you and your colleagues.

If you are interested in getting started with any of the services Family Light offers, or if you would like to refer someone to our services, you can visit the "Register" tab from our official website at familylightconnect.org at any time. We have our services set up to require the least amount of paper work possible. Therefor, we do require 4 digital forms to be completed when first registering for Family Light, but those four forms cover your participation in all/any Family Light services while you remain a participant of.

Last, but certainly not least, Family Light would like to do a couple shout outs to some wonderful folks who have helped Family Light get our services off the ground and running in this past year. We would like to sincerely thank the following:

  • Family Services Collaborative for providing a source of pilot funding for Family Light to get off the ground. We could not have gotten this far without your faith and support in what we do!

  • FamilyWise Services of Minnesota for being a source of encouragement and support in keeping Family Light moving forward! Not only do you support Family Light, but you are also so passionate about building stronger, preventative services and resilience in our communities.

  • Our amazing Advisory Board members for being the backbone of Family Light. Your constant encouragement, idea sharing, and commitment of support for not just Family Light, but for your whole community, has brought a strength and wit to our team that keeps us going.

  • Legacy Church for your support in what Family Light brings to the community and your willingness to share your space with us. Having a welcoming, central location to host our in-person groups and courses is a huge need! We could not offer this without your support!

  • Our committed, passionate parents who have stepped up to join the Family Light Parent Board. We are so proud of your hearts and the way you chose to fight for not only your families but also for the health and strength of other families in our communities. You are a true inspiration!

  • St. Louis County and all the amazing workers within. We could not get connected with as many needs to meet with our services if it wasn't for all your hard work, commitment to your community members, and willingness to send over referrals. What you do is not easy work and yet you do it so well! We appreciate all you do in support of Family Light, and all you do for our communities.

  • All our participants! You are why we do what we do and you are beyond worth it! Your willingness to be vulnerable and participate is amazing as well as your hard work and effort in coming together to support and lean on one another! Thank you for choosing to be a part of Family Light!
